Consumer preference for eco-labelled aquaculture products in Vietnam

Product labelling with eco-certifications is market-based incentive tool for sustainable aquaculture, thus mitigating negative environmental impacts. The aims of this study are to investigate: i) whether consumers prefer eco-labelled (eco-certified) shrimps over conventional (non-certified) shrimp; and ii) specific eco-label (eco-certification logo) others. used a discrete choice experiment method the structured interviews 353 in Khanh Hoa province Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. results show that majority shrimp product. They place higher value on compared shrimp. Despite heterogeneity preference products, highest premium recorded farmed labelled ASC logo – third-party certification. Meanwhile, VietG.A.P logo, Vietnamese government certification, has lowest premium. Consumers, who believe contribution individual actions significant better aquaculture practices, willing pay more eco-labbelled shrimps. findings provide scientific evidences how consumer participation supporting transition Policy implications policymakers terms development Vietnam marketers designing effective marketing strategies retail food sector also discussed.
